If you have pre paid thanks. | ~ ~ ~ Belt Exam/ Open House Class Now that the Holidays are over we finally had a large Belt Exam/ Open House Class. Thanks for showing up to our largest class in the gym ever. If you took a photo please email it to us, we didn‘t take any. Thanks! Please try to attend our month end class. We want to get everyone together, it’s also important to see the belt exams, it’s all a part of the process. ~~~ Heain Sho Dan Challenge. Go out and get a student. Teach them Heain Sho Dan and some of the basics we do at the beginning of class, then invite them to our month end class. They don’t have to know it all, it doesn’t have to be nice. Grab a friend, a neighbor, a parent, someone you baby sit, a stranger from the MB farmers market. We had our first person try the Open House Class last week. Invite everyone you know, we have plenty of room in the gym. | Well it's the New Year and a very important time in Traditional Karate & Traditional Yoga. It's time to shed off any & all negative effects of the past year. It's a time reinforce the positive effects of the years gone by. What we are left with is a solid foundation for the year and years to come. It's now a period of renewal and rebirth. It's a time to strengthen our self motivational skills. It's time to come out of our hibernation. It's time to do something about all we complain about or to learn to just let it go & accept it. |

| Well it's also the beginning of the month and January dues are now due. Dues are due at the beginning of the month. If you are getting this email then you are a "Old Member". The rate for old members is now $90 for individual or $180 for the family package. The whole family for the price of two. We are about half the price of everyone else. The rate for "New Members" or those re joining is $100 for individual or $200 for the family package. If you are on the "Family Package" karate is open to the whole family. The yoga is open to all adults. You can place your dues in the Block Box or mail them in. If you have pre paid thank you very much. No need to make any adjustments. |

Wow it's December! Where did the year go?
As sensei would often say "time is short"!
Next month the days will start to getting longer and soon summer will be here again.
We are planning a full "Junior Black Belt Summer Karate Camp" schedule.
December dues are now due.
If you have pre paid thanks.
Thanksgiving has just passed, we hope yours was fantastic!
If you have missed class we can fit you in.
If you would like extra classes we can fit you in.
We have so many option available. If you are not sure contact us.
Beef up on your attendance, as this month can be a bit disruptive.
Hanukkah is this Thursday, then we have Christmas and New Year's, and maybe a cold or flu or two.
Come to class, brush up, catch up, stay current or better yet get ahead.
This Saturday we will not be in the gym as there will be a Christmas Event that day. Not sure if we'll be in the School Hall or at Longfellow. We'll follow up.
Our "Open House Class/ Belt Exam/ Award Class" will most likely be Thursday December 16th 6:00pm in the Gym.
This is the class where we want everyone to meet. Any Stripes, Awards will be presented during this class. Belt Exams will be held during this class. New students will be introduced to the group. We will follow up on the date. Bring your family, friend and neighbors to join in. We had 3 newbies last month.
If you have 3 stripes and plan to exam please let us know so we can plan the class.

It's our annual 2010 SPECIAL WINTER KARATE TRAINING January 11th - 16th 6am - 7am Monday thru Saturday Join us at dawn to strengthen your mind, body and most important your spirit! We must first overcome the battle within. Winter training is just for that purpose. The battle of the self, to commit, to follow through, to be up early in the chilly morning and to get yourself on the training floor. You may participate for a day or two, we'd love to see you the full 6 days. |

It's been a very busy week and lots of things going on.
Trying to keep it short and sweet.
Jr Nationals - Belt Exam - Kata Tournament - Summer Camp.
Very Last call for Jr Nationals - Anyone else?
Tonight I'm going to Santa Monica to hand in the registration for Jr. Nationals (Atlanta, Georgia June 18th) to Ron. We have Ellen and Max signed up.
Wednesdays - We have a new Power Vinyasa Yoga class with Chelsea 10:00am Longfellow (Pay the teacher directly).
This Thursday is our Open House/ Award/ Belt Exam class.
If you plan to to test let us know to help best plan the class. So far we have Alex P. scheduled to test. Names will be posted on the re cap page.
Jr Nationals - Belt Exam - Kata Tournament - Summer Camp.
This Saturday we are having our own Karate Kata Tournament.
We would like to see kids and ADULTS participate.
We have 3 signed up so far (Adain, Zach & Alex).
It is limited to the first 21.
Register right away so we can plan.

If you are not going to compete come anyway as we will mix in a class.
But sign up and participate. The tournament is convenient as you don't need to travel and you should be comfortable with the set up. Most tournaments go on much longer than expected. We are allotted our hour that's it. Tonight I'm going to invite other clubs (this is last minute for them) it will be nice to compete with others, this kata only. Sign up before the spots are taken (limited to 21 and we group you in 3's). Medals for 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Next time we'll put you in larger groups.We'd like to see our adults compete. We should have some colored belts from the other clubs. A great experience.

2). If you are interested in competing at the Dojo Karate Tournament in Beverly Hills this Sunday, please let us know. We will forward you the details. We will let them know you are coming. We can let you know what to expect. We may even show up as a big group if you are interested in going.
3). We have Max & Ellen registered for Next months Inaugural US Jr. Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia.
If anyone else is interested in going, We need to hand in the registration papers on Monday May 16th, to be sent in to Atlanta by May 20th.
Jr Nationals is for kids as young as 6 to 17 years of age. Yellow Belts to Black Belts. There will be many divisions. Fun and a great experience for all.
4). Sorry for the last minute but we will be having our Open House/ Belt Exam/ Award Class this week, May 19th.
5). The return of our Kata Karate Tournament. Saturday May 21st. 10am, in the gym.
Limited to the first 21 that sign up. Open to all Kids and Adults. Please participate. Everyone makes huge progress after each one of these events.
The participation fee $25.

U.S. Junior Nationals

Lots of things happening - Lots of things in the works.
Karate
1). We are looking for kids to compete at the first ever AAKF (the national Traditional Karate Organization) Jr. Nationals in Atlanta, June 18th.
Anyone 6 to 17 years. Anyone Yellow Belt to Black Belt.
Let's us know asap so we can get you registered. We have one 1 confirmed (1 Brown Belt) & 1 (Orange Belt) almost confirmed to go so far. We will be practicing in almost every class to get ready & to get in the rhythm of the cycle of events. Also to get ready for next years event.
Related - There is a small local dojo competition in Beverly Hills (Avi's Dojo) this Sunday starting 1pm.
There is another one at Peer's Dojo in San Diego just East of Del Mar, May 21st.
It may be a good time to re establish our local tournament circuit again.
We (the clubs listed) are all related as we all come from the same teacher.
So we should all feel comfortable and as one big fun, happy, group.
We may have our first Small Pond Karate tournament as soon as next week. To really get things going we may invite others from the other local clubs.
2). We have a couple dates established for our Summer Karate Camp. More dates to follow.
Reserve your spot asap to ensure your spot. Summer time we get full and we limit the group to 10. We will soon be inviting others from our organization so spots will go quick!
Also take advantage of the deep early bird discount. It all helps keep things running smoothly.
Yoga
1). We have a Power Vinyasa flow class starting this Wednesday morning at 10:00am to 11:00am, at the Longfellow studio. This is a separate class from our yoga program, so would pay the Chelsea directly.
2). Rupa & Suresh are now available to us. We have been waiting for a long time.
We now have a class Saturday mornings with Sonia at 8:30am.
We would like to start another class Saturday or Sunday with Rupa or Suresh or alternating back and forth amongst the two.
We are also looking to establish a evening class during the week.
If we can get a steady 3 or 4 we will establish a class. This would be part of our yoga program.

If you are in town Saturday January 1st Please, Please, Please join us for our first class of the New Year. This is a very important class. We will be back in the gym 10:00am. We will have a very special class to ring in the new year.
We are going to have a Karate / New Year Challenge. We will be doing 108 Katas. We'll be doing Tekki Sho dan, the Purple Belt Kata, a short kata. If you don't know the kata you can study it before hand (we have a YouTube link) or just show up, You will know it by the 108th kata : ) . We will also be practicing the kata during this weeks classes, so please come to class.
We are also looking to to share the gym and have a yoga teacher lead a class doing 108 sun salutations. Pass the word. We want to make it a annual event.

Our Dues will not go up at the New Year to current members (Charter Members). Any new student starting in 2011 will be at $140 for one $280 for the family. Have your friends sign up by December 31st to get in at the "Charter Member Rate".
January 10th - 15th We will hold our Traditional "Special Winter Training". Monday - Saturday 6 - 7am. Open to all. $100 for the week or $25 per day.

February we will be offering 2 Shiatsu Level I (beginner), 8 hour workshops.
We are flying in Nelson from Barcelona to teach the coarse.
At a later date we will follow up with Level II & III courses.

Wow it's December! Where did the year go?
As sensei would often say "time is short"!
Next month the days will start to getting longer and soon summer will be here again.
We are planning a full "Junior Black Belt Summer Karate Camp" schedule.
December dues are now due.

Thanksgiving has just passed, we hope yours was fantastic!
If you have missed class we can fit you in.
If you would like extra classes we can fit you in.
We have so many option available. If you are not sure contact us.
Beef up on your attendance, as this month can be a bit disruptive.
Hanukkah is this Thursday, then we have Christmas and New Year's, and maybe a cold or flu or two.
Come to class, brush up, catch up, stay current or better yet get ahead.
This Saturday we will not be in the gym as there will be a Christmas Event that day. Not sure if we'll be in the School Hall or at Longfellow. We'll follow up.
Our "Open House Class/ Belt Exam/ Award Class" will most likely be Thursday December 16th 6:00pm in the Gym.
This is the class where we want everyone to meet. Any Stripes, Awards will be presented during this class. Belt Exams will be held during this class. New students will be introduced to the group. We will follow up on the date. Bring your family, friend and neighbors to join in. We had 3 newbies last month.

I am (Nita Birnbaum) Walking in the Walk to Defeat ALS to do my part in the fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease. We have formed a team to support Marjie's fight, "Miracle for Marjie". There are several ways you can support the team. You can join the team and walk with us on October 9th in Long Beach. The more Walkers, the merrier and the better for the mission of The ALS Association. We need people like you on my team. If you are unable to walk, please consider making a donation to the ALS Association to help fight this heartbreaking disease.

This Monday at Midnight is the deadline to sign up for our last Small Pond Karate Tournament of the Summer. Please participate. SPECIALLY if you haven't so far. If you have please continue to do so. We are witnessing the benefits received from those that have. The tournament is limited to the first 21. Names of those that have signed up can be found on our site.
Monday is the first day of our Monday - Friday Summer Camp.
Join us per day or for the full week. We have a great group already signed up

This will get you ready for Exams, Catch up/ get ahead, Tournaments etc. . . and it will be fun!
This Thursday is our Open House/ Belt Exam class.

As you home project you are to teach someone, anyone, family, friend, stranger Heain sho dan. Then bring them to our Open House class and show off your work (no one has done so yet). You are also to invite friends to try the class (no one has done so yet).
